Come! come, Having overcome any distance, to the warmth of handshakes, to the Moscow festival!
Historical context:
This poster is link with the 12th World Festival of Youth and Students which was held from 27 July to 3 August 1985 in Moscow, capital city of the then Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. The festival was attended by 26000 people from 157 countries. The slogan of the festival was "For anti-imperialist solidarity, peace and friendship".
The political goal of the festival was to show positive aspects of life in Soviet society. The political program of the festival included the establishment of a new international economic order, discussion of the problems of economic assistance to backward and developing countries, combating poverty and unemployment, and raising environmental issues. Anti-Soviet elements, just as before the 1980 Summer Olympics, were expelled from Moscow before the opening of the festival.

A group of artists known as ‘The Fighting Pencil’. Their names are under the group’s logo – a pencil and palette merged to resemble a gun – which is on this poster (picture 2). The group began in an army unit fighting against Finland in 1939.
