Title: The favorite of the audience

This is an original Soviet film poster published in DDR (German Democratic Republic)

About the film:

Circus clown Lopatin (Anatoli Romashin) and his small, extremely clever poodle Arto are the darlings of a circus that stops in a small Russian provincial town. Arto was found by Lopatin years ago when he was abandoned in the cold of a harsh winter by his heartless former master. Since then, the dog and his owner have been one heart and soul. Since then, Lopatin's nephew has also taken the little poodle into his heart and the three simply cannot be separated. When an argument breaks out between the trio and the director of the circus, who is only interested in making a profit, he simply throws the two young people and the dog out. Aimless and penniless, they head south and get into some difficulties. Things then get tricky when Arto is kidnapped and Lopatin and his nephew want to do everything they can to save him.

Historical context:

The cinema of the Soviet Union includes films produced by the constituent republics of the Soviet Union reflecting elements of their pre-Soviet culture, language and history, albeit they were all regulated by the central government in Moscow. . At the same time, the nation's film industry, which was fully nationalized throughout most of the country's history, was guided by philosophies and laws propounded by the monopoly Soviet Communist Party.
