Spain ‘82 FIFA World Cup, Spain.

Spain ‘82 FIFA World Cup, Spain.

Title: "The net”

The Royal Organizing Committee, in collaboration with the multinational West Nally and the Maeght Gallery in Paris, commissioned fifteen artists of different nationalities to make the posters that were going to represent the World Cup and the fourteen host cities of the matches in Spain in 1982. This poster represents the city of Gijón, Asturias, Spain.

GIJÓN: “The Net,” by French artist Gérard Titus-Carmel (1942). In addition to being an artist linked to conceptual art and Land Art, he was an essayist, poet, writer, and founder, along with V. Velickovic and A. Seguí, of an artists' studio. The poster features a small fragment of a football goal net, where the attention to detail is such that it even shows the wear of the strings, in line with his own interest in the evolution of the deterioration of the motifs he chooses for his works. The artist has given primacy to an extremely restricted space, that of the goal, the place where, ultimately, everything happens, it is the place of decision.
