Title: "The Multitude"

For the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain, the Royal Organising Committee, working alongside West Nally and Paris’s Maeght Gallery, commissioned fifteen international artists to create official posters representing the tournament and its fourteen host cities. This powerful piece was designed for the city of Seville, capital of Andalusia.

Artist: Antonio Saura (1930–1998), born in Huesca, Spain. A founding member of the influential art group El Paso, Saura was one of Spain’s leading exponents of Informalism, alongside Antoni Tàpies. Rather than creating a conventional celebratory sports image, Saura turned his focus entirely to the supporters — yet his vision is far from purely joyful. He depicts the crowd as a dense mass of skulls filling the entire composition, rendered in sombre, shadowy tones. It is a thought‑provoking commentary on the anonymity of the collective, where the individual disappears into the faceless, overwhelming throng.

Printed in 1981 in Vitoria‑Gasteiz, in the Basque Country.

Dimensions: 95 cm × 60 cm

Condition: as shown in the photographs.

This is an original vintage poster — not a modern reproduction, reprint or souvenir.
