This original exhibition poster features the famous painting New York City (1941–1942) by the pioneering Dutch abstract artist Piet Mondrian. This specific piece was printed as an official exhibition poster to commemorate Mondrian's very first retrospective exhibition in Spain, which was hosted by the Fundación Juan March in Madrid between January and March 1982.
The artwork marks a significant evolution in Mondrian's late style following his move to the United States. While his earlier European works relied on thick, rigid black grids to separate blocks of primary colour, his New York period completely abandoned black lines. Instead, Mondrian utilised a vibrant, overlapping lattice of primary red, yellow, and blue lines. This intricate weaving of colours captured the rhythmic energy, modern architecture, and bustling grid-like streets of Manhattan.
