Leger, Spain.

Original exhibition poster which depicts the painting of Fernand Léger’s The Two Cyclists, Mother and Child , 1951. This exhibition took place at Juan March Foundation in 1983 from April to May in Madrid, Spain.

In the years following World War Two, Léger painted several works using sections of his 1948-9 painting Leisure - Homage to Louis David, a work which used cycling as a motif to portray an idealised, peaceful society. In this painting, Léger depicts the figures from the left hand of the original, taking away the colours of their skins and replacing it with the brightly coloured blocks characteristic of his work from this period.

French painter and designer Fernand Léger, was born in Agentan, Normandy in 1881. His work encompasses cubist and semi-abstract styles, and in his later years he also worked in design for the stage. Léger also became an active advocate for peace, and in 1948 became a founder-member of the National Council of the World Peace Movement
