Interesting fact:

Celebrating the New Year was no less important for the Soviets as it is now for modern-day Russians. In fact, many of the traditions enjoyed today were born in the USSR.

Even though the tradition of celebrating New Year came to Russia in the 15th century, the Bolsheviks initially banned it, claiming it was bourgeois. It wasn’t until 1947 that people in the country officially started celebrating the holiday again.
