As classic as a Roman God" is the message of this superb ad for an Italian men's hat company. A good fedora and a fine pair of gloves were the signs of a successful man in the 1930s. The handsome design was created by Xanti Schawinsky, a Swiss designer who studied at the Bauhaus with Kandinsky, Klee, Moholy-Nagy.and others.   Xanti left Germany in 1933 for Italy, where he joined Studio Boggeri in Milan, which quickly became one of the most important design firms in the world. The company became known for best integrating the rigor of Swiss/German design and Italian ingenuity, working for Olivetti, Campari and many others. That spirit of excellence can be seen in this fine poster created shortly after he arrived in Italy.
